While filming fall colors on a remote mountain road in
Trinity County, late afternoon, Oct. 25, 1994 ---
I heard a cat yowling. Shortly after, this mountain lion
came padding into view around a curve in the road. I
was in clear sight, but the cat didn't appear much concerned.
(But stopped yowling instantly.)
I stood on one side of the dirt road (filming with a
video camera) --- as the cat sauntered by on the other
side. We made eye contact briefly. -:)
You can see that I wasn't paying too much attention to
the camera's viewfinder ...... (g)
(I didn't want to miss anything ... by only peeping
through a camera lens.)
I captured some of the lion's yowling and intend to
add audio clips of it soon.
By the way, notice the wet pads. The cat had evidently
been wading in the nearby creek.
